Titel: Team-based collaboration: unstable, part-time, and ill-defined

Abstract: Collaboration in a work context is generally considered to occur in teams that are conceptualized as “typically stable, usually full-time, and well-defined”. Although the literature on teams has greatly advanced our understanding of human collaboration at work, most of the existing literature was unnecessarily constrained by this archetypical definition. In the CAMS research talk, I will discuss my prior, current and future work that seeks to expand collaboration research into (team) arrangements that are unstable, part-time, and ill-defined. Specifically, I will share recent and ongoing research on the multilevel consequences and boundary conditions of multiple team membership and fluid team membership, and I will end the talk with a discussion of the usefulness of “teams” as a theoretical and empirical level of analysis. Given that scientific collaborations usually exemplify the aforementioned trends, I believe the talk will also be of practical relevant for researchers.
