• Title: The cultural values of scholarly journals and their implications for various stakeholders
• Abstract: In this seminar, I will introduce the Information Systems Journal primarily from the perspective of its values. I will use this opportunity to reflect on how Information Systems can contribute to a better world, for a variety of human and non-human stakeholders. Our values reflect the care and trust that we develop for a variety of stakeholders, notably authors, reviewers and members of the editorial board. They also reflect the integrity that is central to the review process, including the way we allocate and appreciate resources. As a journal, we are part of a community to which we contribute through the papers we accept, but also through the feedback that we provide to authors. Finally, I will examine how these ideas can be extended to care for the environment, perhaps the most pressing issue for humanity at this moment in time given both the immediate pressures of climate change and the more remote pressures of resource (over)exploitation.
